Our P3 pupils participated in a session of introductory Sports Climbing in Term 2 as part of the school’s efforts to promote Outdoor Education. This event was held in Greendale Secondary School and our pupils had the opportunity to experience bouldering and top-rope climbing. Bouldering is a great way train individual basic climbing skills because pupils can focus solely on using their own strength and balance to keep themselves on a 2m high wall. Top-rope climbing is where pupils entered the world of harness-and-rope climbing, learning trust and collaboration with a team of belayers ensuring their safety. Both activities gave pupils a chance to train their muscular endurance while having to mentally plan their best climbing routes. Pupils enjoyed the challenge of scaling the walls to reach the top through their resilience and resoluteness, gaining confidence in themselves.
